On September 27th, 1981, Bulgaria’s women’s national volleyball team won the European Championship, their first and only title, by sweeping the Soviet Union three sets to none. The Soviets were the dominant force in women’s volleyball at the time, and beating them was considered a genuine miracle. Nineteen year old Mila Rangelova was named tournament MVP from Bulgaria.
