Week Five…Slips Through the Cracks…
10/6/25
The briefs get brieffer…
With less people using Max Preps, the Projo not letting people view high school stuff without a subscription, few coaches sending stats, and little time for me to watch matches…well, what I have it what I have.
Add that through the craziness that I missed Coventry’s awesome win over La Salle and the ResV experience feels pretty watered down. Apologies!
Nonetheless, we soldier on. After week six, I’ll have more time to really dig in and get some proper insight on the leagues on their final quarter stretch.
For now, however, we’re lean and mean…and I apologize for the slips through the cracks.

ResV Top 15…
North Kingstown (9 - 0) - Two sweeps and the North continues to dominate the league. Big match up with the Townies next.
+2 East Providence (9 - 1) - Thumped La Salle and hasn’t blinked since the Barrington fiasco. Hosting the Skipper next and that’ll be a fun one.
Mt. Hope (11 - 0) - Ho hum week. Two sweeps and prep for Lincoln. It is on the road, so anything can happen, but wouldn’t be surprised if it was smooth sailing till Westerly.
+1 Westerly (10 - 0) - Two sweeps on the week…but this coming week they’ll have to work. Prout has some game and Bay View is no push over. Still, I think the Bulldogs hold the line.
—3 La Salle Academy (7 - 3) - Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice… Somehow I missed that they fell to Coventry last week. Booooo Reslow! Fair enough. Then they got the business from EP. So, troubled times for the Rams. Can they right the ship this week…even when they have to go to Portsmouth?
Barrington (8 - 3) - Handled Classical and Lincoln…though rumor has it the injury bug has unfortunately landed on the Eagles’ head. Should have a pretty uneventful upcoming week, but could be more of an adventure now with players out.
Cumberland (9 - 4) - Lincoln and West Warwick fall at the hands of the Clippers. Upcoming week should be pretty smooth and cruise control can probably be applied…however, Westerly is coming.
+2 Coventry (5 - 4) - Full apologies to Coventry for missing their big-time win over La Salle last Friday. Just got by me…getting old, I guess. They took down Portsmouth and dropped to EP. May be looking at another split week coming up…but it would be cool to hand the defending champs a loss…
—1 Lincoln (7 - 3) - Tough week for the Lions. Cumberland and Barrington hand them losses and the questions becomes pretty clear. Is there enough kill generation to make a serious run?
+1 Portsmouth (4 - 6) - Had to have a split and got Prout in four. With Chariho back on the board and charging forward, the Patriots will need to make a statement against them…and anyone else they play this week.
(New) Chariho (4 - 7) - Haven’t been on the board since the season preview. Been a long road for the 2025 Chargers but they’ve strung together some wins, SK and Classical respectively, and two more wins this week are within range.
Ponaganset (12 - 0) - Don’t think they have an equal in the league. They’ve taken on the closest three teams and have not flinched. Playoffs are a different animal, without question, but the Chieftains look set to run the table.
—4 Classical (7 - 4) - Super tough week for the Purple. Barrington loss hurt, the Chariho loss was startling. Classical must regroup and have a good week. They see SK and Cumberland next.
(New) Bay View (7 - 5) - Bay View is on a three game winning streak since their loss to Lincoln. I think they’re get one this week, but that Westerly match is a tall order.
—1 Tiverton (10 - 1) - Well, they got their shot and couldn’t convert. Disappointing, yes, but also educational. Now, they know what it’s going to take and can game plan…as there is a solid bet the playoffs will lead them to the same opponent.
Receiving Votes…Toll Gate, Scituate, Woonsocket, Hope, South Kingstown, Johnston, West Warwick

Playoff Races Through Week Five…
D1-
North Kingstown – EP matchup on the road is the toughest test to date.
East Providence – Got a chance to make a huge statement on Monday!
La Salle Academy – In a little bit of a free fall. Need to right the ship and get the best pieces on the board.
Coventry – Gritty and dangerous. Still giving La Salle the edge over them for now…but their five-set win over the Rams at home showcases the gap is paper thin.
Portsmouth – Barely holding this spot and Chariho is right there threatening to take it.
D2-
Mt. Hope – Keeping the sheet clean until the Bulldogs try to make their mark.
Westerly – Going through the mini gauntlet to get to Mt. Hope.
Barrington – Injuries may derail their momentum after righting the ship.
Cumberland – Strong week, but still questions remain if they can beat the top three.
Lincoln – Defense is proving to be not enough against the top squads in the league…just can’t score enough points.
D3-
Ponaganset – Have not waivered…top seed basically secured.
Tiverton – Had their shot, but missed. Will try to win out and hopefully get another crack at it in the finals.
Johnston – Also took two shots at the Chieftains and came up empty.
Scituate – Maintaining the pace but needs to take one from either Tiverton or Johnston this upcoming week to not be in the fourth seed slot…don’t want to see Ponaganset until you absolutely have too.
Juanita Sanchez – Huge win over Naraganset keeps them in the fray.
D4-
Toll Gate – Survived Pilgrim which is a great learning experience for Woonsocket coming up.
Hope – Keeping things in check and hoping for another shot at the Titans.
Woonsocket – Toll Gate to start the week…could make some real noise there.
Central – Central has put together a solid season and they’re running neck and neck with North Providence.
North Providence – Good year to date, but need to knock out a couple more teams to be truly scary.
ResV Coaching Tip of the Week:
Simple one today! Slap the ball before doing anything. Yes, I said it. Slap the ball. If you’re initiating a rep, or a drill, slap the ball and then put it into play. Why? Because when you do this, all eyes will be on you. Sure you could say, “Let’s go” or “Ball up” or “Here we go,” however, players may tune you out, may have their attention elsewhere, or it may be a loud gym and they didn’t hear you. You slap the ball, everyone finds you. Also, every time the ball is struck, it makes that noise too, so you’re mimicking that as well. Slap the ball.
ResV Player Tip of the Week:
I guess for this one, we’ll talk a little bit about serving. Serving is so important and can be the difference between a team winning a game going away versus a team getting upset. I’ve seen top ranked teams serve poorly and get knocked out. I’ve seen teams serve so tough that the opposition has zero chance. Take great care behind the service line. Train your process, trust your routine, and be smart where you serve the ball. Good serving can lead to amazing matches and even more amazing wins. So, when your coach says serve for a couple of minutes…take it as seriously as you can for it will be the difference.
NOTE- Thank you to everyone sending me information! This year it’s harder then ever to find stats from matches and obtain relative information. I may not respond to your email, but I am grateful for the data.
