2025 RI Girls Volleyball Preview…

8/24/25

The summer weather can be brutal…but come fall, New England shines.

Ok, as I’ve mentioned in articles past, with me now in full time college coach mode, articles are going to be a little more to the point and contain less of my flowery prose that, perhaps some of you, loved.

Thus, let me tell you what my quick thoughts are…

North Kingstown will be different. Kayleigh Garrepy will be asked to do the heavy lifting on the pin and she’ll deliver. The question will be whether they can score in other aspects, serving, blocking, etc., to maintain their annual stranglehold on the league. This will be the toughest coaching the duo of coaches…Garrepy and Maack have had to do since they started their partnership.

East Providence is loaded this year. Keira Mullen is a beast and she will dominate the league. Ellie Vest is on a tour that will showcase her level. The rest of the cast is no joke and Coach Butler is done messing around with Division Two championships. Townies at home will be a problem for whomever walks in the door and they’ll smoke teams on the road as well. I feel the championship runs through East Providence this year.

Barrington’s Emma McCrann will be the class of D2, with Lyla Auth. She can do it all and will be asked to do just that for an Eagle side that will have some new faces in the gym. Meanwhile, Auth will do the same for her Westerly Bulldogs this season.

Tolman is under new management. With Coach Souksavanh Thilavanh now taking the reigns, it will be interesting to see if the Tigers can continue their level in this new era.

There will be more stories to come and more impressive individual performances to talk about…but for the opening preview, we’ll end here. Now, let’s buckle in for a season that may have more of a rollercoaster feel then we’ve seen in some time.

2025 Stories to Watch…

  1. Can North Kingstown reload?

  2. Is East Providence’s time now?

  3. Could Barrington repeat?

  4. Can Tolman keep their sustained success record going?

  5. Could Mt. Hope make a go of it, winning both the girls and the boys titles in the same year?

  6. Could La Salle Academy make a go of it, winning both the girls and boys titles in the same year?

ResV 2025 Preseason Top 15…

  1. North Kingstown - At the top for the moment, but as vulnerable as they’ve been in a while…

  2. East Providence - May have the most talent on roster in the state including this season’s player of the year…

  3. La Salle Academy - Rams have depth, but depth can also be very challenging as the Rams know…

  4. Barrington - Repeating is harder then most realize, especially with some new hands…

  5. Chariho - If their all-ResV middle returns, they should be in the mix…

  6. South Kingstown - Some new blood here as well, which could be the catalyst for a run…

  7. East Greenwich - Have been on the outside looking in for a while…is this the year that changes?

  8. Mt. Hope - They have a talented roster with players who have playoff experience…

  9. Coventry - Young and athletic which will come in handy while they are learning to win…

  10. Portsmouth - Huge graduation leaves them with plenty of questions to work out…

  11. Lincoln - Defensively sound, perhaps even defensively brilliant…but can they score enough kills?

  12. Tolman - For the last four years, you could set your watch to their high level…is this the year it changes?

  13. Cumberland - Pieces to the puzzle are there, but young…can they find their footing fast enough as a unit?

  14. Bay View - Two main cogs are there, plus a new coach…it could roll right and wins become bountiful.

  15. Ponagansett - Runner up last year with some new faces projected to jump in…
